Beach Metal Detecting

Beach metal detecting is a fantastic hobby and it's always great fun to find gold rings, lost jewellery and coins, spendable or otherwise. I first started metal detecting in the autumn of 2001 with an entry level C-Scope (without headphones). This was a very basic machine but it really helped me to get to grips with the fundamentals of the hobby without spending a fortune. I made some great little finds with the C-Scope but without a discrimination setting, I dug a lot of rubbish. Mind you, we all do anyway :)

The metal detecting bug had bitten deep and I gradually upgraded to a Minelab XS2a Pro fitted with a 15" W.O.T. coil. (The machine I still use today). Over the past few years I have been lucky enough to make some truly amazing finds both on the beach and inland. My all time favourite find was a decorated Bronze Age Flat Axe circa 1700 B.C.

To some detectorists I've spoken to, beach metal detecting is all about digging pull-tabs and losing targets because of holes filling with water. "Tried it once, didn't like it". It doesn't have to be like this. With a little effort and the right approach, beach metal detecting can be just as much fun and just as rewarding as metal detecting inland. It isn't all that difficult if you know what to look for and when and where to search.

BeachDetecting.com will gradually expand over the months and years and it will hopefully contain plenty of tips and tricks to help your beach detecting ventures become a little more successful. Whatever the case I hope you enjoy the site and find it useful.
